Tennis player Ashley Harkleroad will follow the footsteps of US swimmer Amanda Beard and volleyball player Gabrielle Reece and appear nude in Playboy’s August issue. Amanda lost to Serena Williams on Sunday at the French Open and at the post-match asked journos to watch out for Playboy’s August issue.

Ashley is 23 years old and said that she took up the offer to pose nude as she had time on her hands while recovering from treatment for an ovarian cyst.

Ashley said that she was at ease during the shoot and proud of the fact that she was representing a female athlete’s body. Harkelroad drew admiration from Serena who said that Ashley beat her to the Playboy pages and commended Ashley’s courage.

She ruled out any such venture from her in the near future, at least. Harkelroad is ranked 61^st and although her tennis career has not really taken off because of injuries; she does have a significant first to her name – she is the first tennis player to do a full monty for the public eyes.

Ashley has come far from the small town of Flintstone, Georgia which had only one traffic light. Ashley has been playing tennis since the age of four. Her career prize money to date is $878,621. Harkelroad has had a great juniors’ career but success at the seniors’ level has been elusive. Her highest ranking has been 39 that she achieved in 2005.
