It’s been a year since Amanda Beard appeared in Playboy. Before deciding to appear nude for Playboy, Amanda Beard had already done photo shoots for Maxim, FHM, and SI Swimsuit Edition. She also had the honor of being the most downloaded female athlete in 2004.

Amanda’s appearance then had sparked some interesting debates about the place of women in sports. An interesting statistic thrown up then had been that ESPN “SportsCenter” had a 20:1 bias in favor of showing male sportsmen.

Female athletes like Amanda Beard, Ashley Harkelroad, and Gabrielle Reece are dealing serious blows to the wholesome image of the American female athlete but I guess the men are not complaining. Usually Playboy and Maxim issues that feature sportspersons in the buff fly off the stands. All top female athletes including Steffi Graf have been approached by these magazines sworn to feeding our baser instincts. Of course, those who support her mention that it’s her body and America is a free country. Moreover, Playboy is not a smut magazine for many people; after all it has carried interviews of Gore Vidal, Bill Gates, Kurt Vonnegut and so many decent and popular folks.

Amanda enjoys interior decorating and is a spokesperson for Defenders of Wildlife. Her love life has seen relationships with South African swimmer Ryk Neethling, NASCAR Nextel Cup Driver Carl Edwards. Presently she is with photographer Sacha Brown. Amanda Beard was ranked the number one breaststroke swimmer over 200 m in 2003.

Amanda has followed the footsteps of Gabrielle Reece and beaten Ashley Harkelroad in dropping her clothes for Playboy.
